1 What is a rootstock?
The rootstock controls the eventual size of the tree.
 
2 Will my pear tree pollinate my cherry tree?
No the fruit tree has to be pollinated by the same species.
 
3 What does the fruit taste like?
We suggest you come and taste some.
 
4 In which month will they fruit?
All types of fruit have varieties that ripen at different times.
 
5 How long will it be before they fruit?
Depending on the size of tree and type of fruit, approximately 3-5 years.
 
6 Can I grow a cherry/apple/ pear tree in a pot?
Yes if you use the right rootstock.
 
7 What shape will the tree be?
This depends on pruning and where/how you wish to grow it.
 
8 Where should I plant my fruit trees?
In a sunny sheltered spot.
 
9 When should my trees be planted?
Ideally when dormant during the winter.
 
10 How far apart should the trees be planted?
Usually the same distance apart as the approximate eventual height.
 
11 How do I get plenty of juicy fruit?
By a regular routine of pruning and feeding.
 
12 How should I prune it?
You could come to one of our pruning courses or look at our basic advice.
 
13 Will I have to spray the tree?
This depends on the quality of fruit you want.
 
14 I live in the Scottish Highlands are there varieties which grow here?
Providing you’re not living on the top of the mountain, but down in the glen, there are certain varieties that will grow.
