Fruit
Identification

Identification
of an unknown cultivar requires three samples of typical mature
fruit. A single fruit, damaged, misshapen or poor specimens are
very difficult to name. Please also include a sample shoot &
leaves, and as much detail about the fruit & tree as possible-
it's season of use, whether it is dessert or culinary, the age and
habit of the tree, and location if different from your address.
Samples
sent for identification should be clearly labelled and carefully
packed together with your name, address, postcode & 'phone number
in block capitals.
Please
follow these instructions when sending us your fruit:
- Select
3 typical fruits of each unknown cultivar. If more than one cultivar
is sent, number the fruits & keep a record, as samples cannot
be returned. Apples & pears are best numbered on the skin
with a ballpoint or waterproof marker pen.
- Fruit
should be sent so as to arrive in as good a condition as possible.
Pack fruit in newspaper, bubble wrap etc in sound boxes. DO NOT
use boxes that have previously used for pungent products such
as soap, as these can mask characteristic aromas. They should
be sent to us clearly marked Fruit Identification, with the fee,
your friends membership number, and a stamped addressed envelope
also enclosed in the box.
Just
send us samples of your fruit (following the instructions above)
together with your payment for the service and we'll identify the
variety for you.
