Our Approach
Are
you looking for a new fruit garden or orchard? Do you need to rejuvenate
an old one? Or are you looking for advice on managing either new
or established fruit trees & soft fruit? If so, our advisers
aim to create or recreate fruit gardens and orchards which reflect
your requirements: aiming for efficient production as well as aesthetically
pleasing form & style.

Design Service
We
have offered this service successfully for two seasons now, and
are able to offer your a basic design in colour for a small fee
dependent upon the size of orchard. See price
scale below
What we need from you
- An
outline sketch of the area you are planting, including details
of any sloping areas, the aspect of the site, and if the site
is bound by any trees or houses which would act as a windbreak.
- A
list of the type of fruit you want, Apples, Plums, Pears etc,
and if you have a theme you wish to follow, eg. certain historical
period, or local varieties
- A
good idea of the soil conditions (a Soil Test) is a good idea),
is your ground compacted? Is it stoney etc? what has been grown
or grazing there for the past few years ?

Orchard
Consultancy
We
can arrange a site visit to discuss your orchard plans, pruning
requirements, offer advice and answer questions on disease related
problems.
This work is carried out by very experienced and knowledgable fruit
experts, and a full report will be provided within 28 days of the
site visit.
Professional
Analysis
Fruit
ID
Carried out by the famous Pomologist, Dr Joan Morgan, who can
identify most varieties of apple and pear.
Please send in 3 fruits, some leaves and one year old wood, with
your cheque made payable to Brogdale Horticultural Trust
for £18.80 (incl. VAT).
Soil
Analysis
This service will provide a full analysis of your soil samples
including Ph and nutrient levels. Please take up to 6 samples of
your soil from the area in question. Samples should be taken from
up to 6" depth. Mix these samples in a bucket and scoop out
a trowel-full into a polythene bag. Send this to us marking your
envelope "Soil Analysis" with your cheque made payable
to Brogdale Orchards Ltd for £14.99.
Analysis
Service
We can arrange to identify deficiencies in leaves or fruits
for you. Please send 20 leaves or 10 fruits in a polythene bag with
your cheque made payable to Brogdale Orchards Ltd for £29.99.
For
all these services we will give you a typed report within 28 days
of the visit or receipt of your details (Fruit ID can take a little
longer, particularly during the harvest season). If you choose to
have the ideas professionally drawn up or painted, please allow
up to 56 days.
